Running a successful sneaker business in today’s market is tough. There are so many brands that are trying to cut through the noise and it’s easy to drown. But when it comes to @oobbrraa not only have they crafted a loyal customer base but they have created a product that has turned sneakerheads around the world into number one fans. So, how did they do it?

“One of the initial considerations are the market you want to be in and the values that are important to you. Will you be chasing trends / attempt to influence fashion trends or will your brand focus on quality, wearability, value and ethics,” explains Arnaud Delecolle, co-founder of OBRA sneakers.

It’s this focus on wearability, value and ethics that sets OBRA apart from other brands in the sneaker world ... and makes them a force to be reckoned with.

Starting a business is more than just finding a product and selling it - it’s about telling a story that your customers can relate to. For Janeva, owner of @saavaunt jewelry, that is at the core of everything she does. Every collection in her jewelry line has a story, and every piece symbolizes something.

But how did a successful model like Janeva transition careers into designing a full jewelry collection and running a successful e-commerce business? “I've learned to stay true to my vision and believing the idea I have is valuable. It's often easy to get swayed and distracted by thinking people are not going to like my designs. But what I create will find the right people, and they will love it. You have to stick to your vision, believe in it, and roll with the punches,” explains Janeva.

It's a beautiful thing when someone turns their love for a craft into a business. And for Naoko, this couldn’t be more true.

The owner of Kabuki.NY, a floral company located at Canal Street Market, Naoko’s love for flowers and the arts always ran deep. “My parents were both in the arts, my dad, a painter, and my mom a musician. So I was always surrounded by creativity, it’s in my blood. What got me into floral art, however, was the love that my grandparents shared for flowers. I grew up around flowers - they have always been beautiful to me - and I would look at it as an underrated art form”.

So in July 2020, in the middle of a global pandemic, Naoko took the plunge and opened @kabuki.ny. “At the beginning of the pandemic, I was out of a job, and just like everyone else, I was scrambling to figure out what my next thing was. So I took that free time to think about what I'd like to do for my life.”

“I think I’m a little different from other entrepreneurs because I’ve always known that at some point I’m going to walk away from @diasporaco. I started the business because I wanted to see globally sourced products have the same farm to table ethos and the same quality standards as local produce. I felt that I gained so much from knowing who grew my peaches and who grew my tomatoes and I felt like there was so much power in creating that connection in terms of who grew your spices on the other side of the world. The best part is that we are able to work with ten of the best farms from six different states across India right now and pay them 6X the price they were making before, which means they went from earning $4500 a year to now getting paid $26,000 a year. It’s pretty amazing.

But I’ve set it up so eventually, we can transfer ownership to our farm partners. I work in service of our farmers, my job is to market what they grow. Otherwise, the power always lies with the trader. I’m the middleman right now

My wife and I started a business because we were tired of asking other entities for capital to invest in our own communities. We were both educators training youth in Memphis neighborhoods on how to use literature and the arts to build paths out of poverty. After helping to start a performing arts school in South Memphis that was closed due to lack of funding, we decided we were tired of waiting. The best way to do fund our non profit work in our neighborhood was to create a for-profit business around an industry that encapsulated all of our areas of passion. History, literature, the arts, and of course, coffee.

We work really hard to think and speak about coffee from Black and African perspectives, which can often lead to a sort of imposter syndrome when we look at other coffee companies in the industry. The Black story is kind of unheard of in our market. That’s also become our biggest strength though. We’re telling a story that has been ignored for a long time, and as such we’re reaching customers who’ve

Mike D’s bringing the sauce 🔥. Fresh off of earning a $100,000 investment into his business on @discovery’s #IQuit, Mike is ready to become a mentor himself and teach you everything he’s learned about branding and selling a winning product.

After quitting his job, Mike went all-in on making it big with his award-winning line of BBQ sauces and rubs @mikedsbbq. Motivated by the passing of his son, together with his wife Gloria, Mike learned how to persevere and never make excuses. He brought his business smarts, commitment, and passion to give Mike D’s BBQ his best shot.

Through his mentorship on I Quit, he learned how to market his business effectively by becoming the face of his brand. He learned how to secure distribution partnerships by getting his product into a local grocery store, and widen the awareness of his brand by landing a local sponsorship deal.

Moreover, he learned how to risk it all by putting everything on the line to give his business everything he had.

And now it’s Mike’s turn to shar
